What do I need to link up 2 Xboxes for system link games?

in5ane.com > FAQs > Xbox Live FAQ > Miscelleanous

System Link games offer multiplayer games via a private network rather than Xbox Live.

System Link games only need the most basic of computer network to operate. The two simplest options are:

1) A cross over network cable directly connected to two machines. This will network the two Xboxes together, and make system link play possible. However, the limitations are it might need to be a very long cable if the consoles are in different rooms, and there is no possibility of including more than two consoles.

2) You can get a simple network hub/network switch. Home versions often have 4 or 8 ports. Connecting the Xboxes to a hub/switch with a 'normal' network cable (not crossed like in example 1) will network the machines together for system link play. This also opens up the possibility for more than two Xboxes in the future, or the addition of other devices if this is a home network.
